How to Lower Ping in Roblox: Why It's High and 10 Fixes

Why is your ping so high in Roblox, even with good internet? Learn how Roblox picks servers, how to check your ping, and 10 fixes that lower Roblox ping.

High ping in Roblox usually comes from one of three things: you were placed on a distant server, the experience's server is overloaded, or your own connection is spiking. Unlike most online games, Roblox doesn't let you choose a server region, so the fixes look a little different. Here's how to find out which problem you have and lower your Roblox ping.

How to check your ping in Roblox

  1. Press Esc to open the Roblox menu.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Turn on Performance Stats.

A bar appears at the top showing memory, CPU, GPU, network data and ping. Watch it for a few minutes:

  • Stable, under 80 ms: good for most experiences.
  • Stable, but 150+ ms: the server is far away or slow.
  • Spikes and jumps: usually your connection, often Wi-Fi.

Why Roblox ping is often high

Roblox picks your server

When you press Play, Roblox chooses a server for you. Popular experiences have servers almost everywhere. For smaller ones, or when you join a friend, you can land on a server on another continent. Ping is high but stable, and changes when you rejoin.

Some servers are simply slow

Every Roblox experience runs its own server-side scripts. A badly optimised or crowded server takes longer to respond, and that shows up as higher ping for everyone in it. If other players are complaining too, the problem isn't you.

Your own connection

Wi-Fi interference, other devices uploading, and routers that buffer traffic cause spikes in Roblox just like in any other game.

10 ways to lower ping in Roblox

1. Rejoin or server-hop

If ping is high but stable, leave and join again, or pick a different server from the experience's Servers tab. It's the fastest way off a distant or overloaded server.

2. Avoid full and very old servers

Servers that are full or have been running for many hours are more likely to lag. A fresher server with fewer players often runs better.

3. Join friends who are close to you

Joining a friend puts you on their server. If they live far away, your ping will be high. If you play together often, let the player with the worst ping start the server.

4. Use an Ethernet cable

Wi-Fi causes most Roblox spikes. A cable to your router is the most effective single fix. On a laptop, a USB-to-Ethernet adapter works fine.

5. Use 5 GHz Wi-Fi if you can't use a cable

Connect to the 5 GHz network instead of 2.4 GHz, and play in the same room as the router.

6. Stop downloads and streams on other devices

Uploads hurt most: cloud backups, video calls and streaming. Pause them, or turn on QoS/SQM on your router. See router settings for gaming.

7. Lower graphics if FPS is low

Low FPS feels like lag. In Settings, set Graphics Mode to Manual and lower the quality slider. If FPS climbs and the game feels better, the problem wasn't ping.

8. Close browser tabs and background apps

Roblox on PC shares bandwidth and CPU with everything else. Close streaming tabs, cloud sync and game launchers that are updating.

9. Be careful with "server region" extensions

Some browser extensions show the location of Roblox servers and let you pick one. They can help, but install only well-known extensions from official stores. Never paste code into your browser console or share your .ROBLOSECURITY cookie — that's how Roblox accounts get stolen.

10. Try a ping booster for the route

If ping stays high on every server and your home network is clean, the route between your ISP and Roblox may be the problem. Ping boosters such as GearUP, LagoFast and ExitLag support Roblox. Test a free trial on the same experience before paying.

Roblox ping on mobile and console

  • Mobile: move closer to the router, or switch to mobile data if your Wi-Fi is crowded. 5G often has lower ping than a busy home network.
  • Xbox and PlayStation: use a cable and pause background downloads. See how to lower ping on PS5 and Xbox.

Quick diagnosis

What you see Likely cause Fix
High but stable, changes after rejoining Distant server Server-hop
High for everyone in the server Overloaded server Different server
Spikes every few seconds Wi-Fi or busy network Cable, pause uploads
High on every server, every day Route or ISP Booster trial

FAQ

Why is my ping so high in Roblox but my internet is good?

Roblox often puts you on a server that isn't the closest one, especially in less popular experiences, and some experiences run heavy scripts that make the server itself respond slowly. Both show up as high ping even when your internet is fast.

How do I see my ping in Roblox?

Open the Roblox menu (Esc), go to Settings and turn on Performance Stats. Ping appears in the bar at the top of the screen, along with memory, CPU and network usage.

Can I choose my server region in Roblox?

Not with Roblox's own settings. Roblox assigns servers automatically. Some third-party browser extensions show server locations, but use only well-known ones, and never paste code into your browser console or share your account cookie.

What is a good ping in Roblox?

Under 80 ms feels smooth in most experiences. Competitive experiences such as shooters or fighting games feel better under 50 ms. Above about 150 ms you'll notice rubber-banding and delayed actions.

Does a ping booster work for Roblox?

It can, if the route to Roblox's data centre is the problem. It can't help when the experience's server is overloaded or very far away. Use a free trial and compare ping on the same experience.
