ExitLag works — when the route is your problem. Its multipath routing can lower ping and cut packet loss for players whose ISP sends game traffic the long way or through congested links. It won't help with bad Wi-Fi or distance, and it isn't the cheapest booster. If you play competitive games on PC and your ping or packet loss is worse than it should be, it's worth testing with the free trial.
About this review: It's based on how ExitLag works, its features, and its published terms. We haven't published our own measured ping tests for ExitLag yet. When we do, they'll appear on this page and on our How we test page.
What is ExitLag?
ExitLag is a game connection optimiser for Windows and macOS, with mobile options. Instead of letting your ISP choose the path to the game server, ExitLag sends your game traffic through its own network of servers, along routes chosen for low latency.
Multipath: ExitLag's key feature
ExitLag's main differentiator is multipath routing. It can send the same game data over several routes at once, and the copy that arrives first is used. If one route drops a packet, a copy on another route usually gets through. That makes ExitLag especially effective against packet loss and ping spikes, not just high average ping.
Does ExitLag work? When it helps — and when it doesn't
| Your situation | Will ExitLag help? |
|---|---|
| ISP routes you through another city or country | Very likely |
| Packet loss somewhere on the route | Very likely (multipath) |
| Playing on servers in another region | Often |
| Evening congestion on the default route | Often |
| Weak or crowded Wi-Fi | No — fix Wi-Fi first |
| Router bufferbloat | No — use SQM |
| Already on a short, direct route | Little or none |
The fastest way to tell: run tracert to the game region. A large jump in latency partway through the route is a good sign that a booster has room to help. Our guide on why your ping is high explains this in detail.

- Free trial — for new accounts. See ExitLag price and free trial.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Multipath is genuinely useful against packet loss
- Wide game support
- Route control for players who like to tweak
- Polished, well-known product
Cons
- Not the cheapest option — see LagoFast or pay-as-you-go Mudfish for budgets
- PC-first: console players have better options such as GearUP
- Can't help when the route is already optimal — nothing can
Is ExitLag safe and legit?
ExitLag is a legitimate paid service. It's been on the market for years and is widely used by competitive players. Technically, it changes how your traffic reaches the server; it doesn't read or modify game memory or files. That's why route optimisers aren't treated like cheats.
Safety tips that apply to any booster:
- Download only from the official ExitLag website.
- Avoid "cracked" versions. They don't work with the paid network anyway and often contain malware.
- Don't use it to change region to dodge prices or matchmaking rules.
Common problems and fixes
- ExitLag won't connect: close other VPNs and boosters, then allow ExitLag through your firewall and antivirus.
- Ping got worse: switch to another route or change the connection settings for that game. The automatic choice isn't always best.
- Game not detected: update the app, run it as administrator, and check that the game is on the supported list.
- It worked before and stopped: game updates sometimes change network behaviour. Restart the app, and contact support if it persists.
How to test ExitLag properly
- Play 2–3 matches without ExitLag. Note ping, spikes and packet loss.
- Turn on the trial and play the same number of matches, on the same server, at a similar time of day.
- Try a second route if the first doesn't help.
- Judge by spikes and packet loss, not just the best ping you saw.
Verdict
ExitLag is one of the strongest ping boosters for competitive PC players, especially against packet loss and bad routes. It's not the cheapest and it's PC-first, so test the trial before paying. If it helps, a longer plan plus a promo code keeps the cost down. If it doesn't, compare the best ExitLag alternatives. A different network may have a better route for you.
